Carollo recently completed the design of the new Point of the Mountain Water Treatment Plant near Salt Lake City, Utah. The plant will use conventional treatment with UV disinfection to meet Cryptosporidium inactivation requirements under the Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule.
Carollo designed the plant with a capacity of 70 mgd, but included provisions to expand the facility to an ultimate capacity of 120 mgd. The project included investigating UV equipment and installation options based on the requirements of the draft USEPA UV Disinfection Guidance Manual. Carollo used advanced life-cycle cost analysis tools to compare UV vendor bids and select the best technology.
