May 2008 - Engineers Without Borders-USA (EWB-USA), a non-profit humanitarian organization that partners with developing communities worldwide in efforts to improve quality of life, announces the appointment of Marco Aieta, Ph.D., P.E., DEE and Partner at Carollo Engineers as its new President-Elect.

Dr. Marco Aieta
During Dr. Aieta’s one-year term as President-Elect, and subsequent two-year term as President beginning in 2009, he will focus on fundraising and developing relationships with other key organizations, such as Rotary International, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In addition to serving as President-Elect, Dr. Aieta is also the Chairman of the newly formed Development Committee. This committee has the goal of raising a $100 million endowment for EWB-USA in the next five years.

“Marco has exceptional leadership ability, extensive industry experience, and genuine passion for the mission of EWB-USA.  I have absolute confidence that the organization will thrive under Marco’s leadership, and that he will accomplish great things during his time as President-Elect, and in the years to come,” said Dr. John Bennett, current President of EWB-USA.

As a founding and continuous member of EWB-USA’s Governing Board since 2002, Dr. Aieta’s leadership in fund-

raising and project oversight has been integral to EWB-USA’s consistent growth and success. Since its inception, EWB-USA has initiated a variety of engineering improvement projects in developing countries around the world, including Bolivia, El Salvador, Ghana, and Rwanda. These projects, ranging from renewable energy to clean water systems, not only deliver immediate benefits for developing communities, but also provide a foothold for continued sustainability and progress. EWB-USA brings together talent, dedication, and commitment to nurture and support the engineers who will find solutions for today’s issues and tomorrow’s challenges.

“EWB-USA has seen a tremendous amount of growth in the past six years, which would not have been possible without Marco’s commitment to the organization,” said Cathy Leslie, Executive Director of EWB-USA. “With Marco’s leadership, we look forward to making a much greater impact on the engineering profession and the communities in which we serve.”

A Partner at Carollo Engineers, Dr. Aieta has more than 25 years of experience in environmental engineering, delivering innovative solutions to municipal drinking water and wastewater clients worldwide.
